QUOTE freedom of the press UNQUOTE

Freedom is a word thrown around in america like candy. Freedom of the press is no different in our book chapter 10, there was a case where someone was imprisoned for 226 days for posting a video of people for illegal activities. In the end of my argument you shouldn't be jailed for posting anything IF you're going to call it freedom. Call it limited freedom. Now a days people post everything on social media. Social media has become an extension of us. If you want to know 99% of us, check Facebook. So be careful what you put out there because its as if you spoke it in a loud speaker for everyone to hear. People post things all the time now and get thrown in jail for it. a 19 year old boy was thrown in jail for posting"I think Ima shoot up a kindergarten / And watch the blood of the innocent rain down/ And eat the beating heart of one of them." (Shontell). Now im on your side, if someone is actually going to do that, yeah they need to be locked up. But again all he did was post it (say it). The word freedom really puts a meaning into americans heads that anything is possible and it makes people do stupid things.

    I think Freedom of Speech is extremely important but when you are posting with intent to harm, thats when you should not be allowed to do so. Yeah, maybe he did post that without meaning to actually do so, but why would someone ever post that in the first place. It is vulgar, and scary, and if I was parents of those children I would sure want this person to be locked up. Again, if someone was posting online saying they were going to kill you and watch you die, Im sure you wouldn't be saying "well all they did was post it online".
    There is an issue of harassment online that needs to be taken seriously.

Wedding Cake Court Case (make-up post)

Wedding cake court case involving a gay couple, Charlie Craig & David Mullins, and a cake baker, Jack Phillips, who refused to bake a wedding cake for the couple. Just all around, it's a tricky debate with many different angles due to the baker arguing on the grounds of the First Amendment---its protections for free speech and the free exercise of religion. In the end, I think it comes down to whether we consider baking a cake qualifies an exercise of freedom of expression. I would say that it depends on the situation/context of baking. If Mr. Phillips wants his cake baking to be categorized artistic expression that falls under free expression, he can just go bake a cake on his own. Only then when he's on his own private time does it qualify, but as soon as he offered his skills as a public service via his business, I'd argue he gave that right to expression up. Also, what's stopping other artisans/professional services to deny services? By Mr. Phillip's logic...

Why is Freedom of Speech Important in a Democracy

While reading Chapter 15, I got the sense that the book was really coming full circle. In the first week of class, we established a meaning for freedom of speech and that shared meaning allowed us to navigate the classroom together as a classroom and a collective group. Creating a space that also involved mutual respect of opinons but encouraging difference in them as well. This brings me to an article I found about the importance of Freedom of Speech in a democracy. It is a basic human right to be able to express opinions and beliefs in our country.
